Mindfulness: In a mental health environment it is the ability to keep others in mind when acting and seeing that they may be experiencing issues or obstacles at the moment. If a person is mindful they can decrease the amount of mental stress on the people around them.
Mental Health: Mental health is how you are mentally. If you suffer from depression or large amounts of stress you are not mentally healthy. To be completely healthy you must be completely self-sufficient mentally, not needing outside support to get through a day, and to be able to support others.

Mental Health Coping Strategies
Four mental health strategies that help keep you cope with mental health strategies are as follows. The rule of five is a proven strategy to deal with mental stress. It is essentially a before hand strategy in which you ask yourself how it will affect you in five minutes, five hours and five days. This makess you think how it will affect you in the short and long-term. This decreases the levels of stress you have in the future and allows you to make better decisions. Being mindful of yourself and others is another. This is essentially you keeping our mind open to how others and you are feeling mentally, if someone is npt mentally healthy you have to keep in mind how they are and speak to them of how they need help or how they can help themselves. The mental health foundation saays that ways to improve how to be mindful are to practice breathing and meditation. Taking time to yourself is important when dealing with mental health. When dealing with issues pertaining to yourself and others its important because when dealing with others you need to keep from taking on others stress, putting yourself into a situation where you are unhealthy. Taking time to yourself allows you to reset and keep stress from pushing you over the edge. Having friends is also a good strategy, friends and communicating are important to keeping social stress. Friends can allow you to speak about your situation in a no judgement zone.

Stress Reduction Strategies
My two stress reduction strategies are excersise and participating in hobies. Excersise is an awesome strategy with proven results in science and from many who do. Sports in particular are great as they incorporporate parts from social interaction and the physical piece. Social interaction in sports is great as its usually people who are leaving their problemss behind and are just there to have fun, inclulding you, sports gives the possibility of just leaving your issues alone for an hour. Exercise is proven to release a chemical called Endorphins into your brain, these are the chemicals that make you happy and relieve stress. It can also help in keeping you happy with your body as you improve your physical health. Its also been shown that this is one that creates a barrier from future stress issues. Participating in a hobby is a great way to improve your levels of stress. Small hobbies that don't require deadlines are best, such as reading or even listening to music. Getting your mind into a rhythym can take a load off from your brain. Hobbies such as reading are also beneficial in improving your mentality and your knowledge. Small things such as listening to white noise are also beneficial and while doing work listening to white noise relaxes your mind. Getting yourself into a group of people who enjoy the hobbies you do improves your levels of social stress, so get a hobby!
Continuum
The mental health continuum is a bar which everyone is placed on and is constantly moving on. On one side is ill where the person has issues with mental health and requires assistance to be at a liveable level. The other extreme is to be perfectly healthy, this is where you are completely self-sufficient and don't need external assistance to work. Every person is constantly moving on it, from small decision, to large losses in your life. No person is at either extremem for long and will be at both some point in their life. Most people reside arounfd the middle of the continuum and bounce back and fourth.

Act of Contemplation
An act of contemplation is a moment where you have thought deeply or contemplated a situation. To participate in an act of contemplation you must first obtain the virtue of charity as it is both the mainspring and the outcome of an act of contemplation. The word contemplation in itself means to think deeply or profoundly about something. In such it is a participation in a moment of deep or profound thought. It is also a form of prayer or meditation.
Active Listening
What is active listening?
Active listening is completely focusing on the subject of attention. When someone is giving a speech or dishing out orders a person should usually be giving their utmost attention to the speaker. It is found rude for someone to not do this when someone, such as a teacher, is speaking. Ways to show that you are fully involved in the speaking of a person are non verbal agreements (nodding, leaning forward e.t.c) and giving insight and opinion at appropriate moments. A person when listening actively should be able to remember and process every word that was spoken or presented. It is the best form of appreciation but active listening is a trait that is very difficult to accomplish if the reader has a subject that is boring or if the knowledge is just an uninteresting piece to the audience.
Example
Active listening requires two main parts to work well. A respectful audience and an interesting speaker. The audience must be intrigued and actually able to participate in the talk. An audience cannot be interested in a bad speaker though. If the speaker doesn't know how to get their point across in a timely and interesting matter the cause of the audience listening is lost. A good example of active listening is giving body language while they are talking. leaning forward and nodding give the impression that the speaker is interesting an agreements help to show you have taken in the details. Giving short verbal pieces such as yeah or I get it show that you have listened and know how to respond with what they just spoke. Being able to answer questions about the talk really shows that you paid attention and that the knowledge has been passed on from the speaker. I find that people need eye contact to really feel that there point has been passed on. Eye contact have varying levels depending on the point you're trying to get across. Maintaining eye contact for one hundred percent of the time gives of the feeling that you're creepy while no eye contact is just being lazy. Falling around the seventy percent point is best as it is enough eye contact to show that you are paying attention while still giving breaks for letting creepy levels go down. Situations with good active listening is college classrooms where every student wants to make the most out of their class time. Smaller classrooms also work better as eye contact can be made with each student incorporating them into your talks.
Five questions to open conversation.
- "Heeeeeey buddy, how ya feelin?" This shows that someone cares how the person feels which makes them feel like they are in a safe environment.
- "That news doesnt help too much does it?" This is a question that revelas how someone feels about a topic and if used correctly is perfect for finding out whats annoying someone.
- "You wanna talk pal?" This shows that you know somethings up and that you are available to talk to without judgement.
- "Hard day wasn't it?" This shows that you are also in a situation of vulnerability allowing them to open up to you.

Advent
The beginning minutes of the video start off with some more basic questions of advent, what is advent? What makes advent a special time of the year? What do we mean by christ's second coming? How can we prepare and always be ready for christ's second coming? Why do we see the color purple used in addvent? Why do we have the advent wreath?
So what is advent? The video describes advent as being a time of coming and is derived from the latin word adventus literally meaning coming. What makes advent a special time of the year? It's the coming of Jesus into your heart and home and a time for you to repent and prepare for love. What do we mean by christ's second coming? We mean the promise that Jesus made in that he will come again to judge the liveing and the dead as good or wicked. How can we prepare and always be ready for the second coming of Jesus? We prepare by preparing our heart in getting love and other acts such as loving our neighbour, repenting and giving the lord praise. Why do we see the color purple used in advent? It is seen in man parts of the mass, from the robes to the candles, its used to remind us to prepare our hearts and repent and that purple is a royal color used to show the king of kings. Why do we have the advent wreath? It is a symbolic symbol in that the wreath is a circle and has no end showing the eternal love of god. The three purple candles show the same symbolic representations as the question before while the pink candle represents the joy of Christ's coming. |
Week 1: Hope
Hope is the theme of the first week as it represents the hope that is now in you because we are now counting down the days till the coming of Jesus. We hope you'll understand. Week 2: Peace We have peace as the second theme as a step in preparation. We prepare for Jesus by coming to peace in mind and spirit to allow him to enter our hearts. Week 3: Joy This theme is for the joyous feeling we should have as Jesus nears our hearts and Christmas day. It is also known as gaudete. It is pink because that is the color that represents joy. Week 4: Love The fourth week is love as Jesus comes to share his love with the world. We also share our love and prepare for the next morning when Jesus will arrive. Christmas: Christ On some wreaths a fifth white candle in the middle of the wreath is lit on Christmas to celebrate the coming of Jesus. The Christ candle is white due to the innocence of Christ. The three candles are purple to represent fasting as we prepare for Jesus. The third is pink to show the joy we have for the coming of Jesus. |
Benefits of technology
- Increased communication between people. Even between China and Canada we have nearly instantaneous messages and the ability to share hobbies and videos of cat playing piano.
- Medical technology is a new step into improving the quality and length of ones life. Advancements such as laser and plasma scalpels have made surgery recovery far easier on ones body.
- Technology has allowed us to take care of our environment by studying the paths and habits of endangered animals and by decreasing the energy used and finding renewable sources of energy.
- The use of technology in school environments has allowed many children to learn at a faster pace then older methods.
- The construction of and use of new technology has created many jobs for people which has expanded the economy and more stability for countries such as China who rely on manufacturing products for developed countries.
Negatives of technology
- The internet (one of the greatest achievements by man in the field of technology) has created a new way to put people down: Cyber bullying. This is a more popular way to bully as bullies use screens as a shield the can fire from but receive no physical harm.
- What you say on the internet, no matter how many times you try to erase it, will always remain in someones folder or in a screenshot someone took of it.
- Advertisements of how a persons body should look has become a by-product of many social medias such as Instagram and Facebook. Many people can feel body shamed after looking through for a half hour.
- Vehicular technology has created a demand for non-renewable energy sources such as natural gas and oil. It has also allowed human kind to spread across the earth slowly destroying natural land to make more people.
- The internet has created potential threats of petifile and content inappropriate for children.
How to stay safe online
Being safe on the internet is a lesson nearly having to be taught right from the womb with children being given access to the internet at ages as young as five. Being safe on the internet takes a mixture of logical thought (apparently something that many people lack) and some knowledge of how the internet works. Logical thought comes into play in situations such as emails from your "Your long lost Nigerian Prince brother" requesting your bank info to give you millions of dollars. It's not true and seems obvious however you'd be surprised by how many people fall for that trick. The actual knowledge is a small part but consists of knowing that many sites just request money and advertisements can be blocked using free program, which helps your wallet. As well that many people who are bullied on the internet use the block button which effectively shuts someone up, and the report button which can take someone off of the program for two months to eternity. These are not well known however and some people think that they are responsible for being bullied, but
|
Our technological commandment was to "not use technology to incorporate yourself into the downfall of others" . We chose this because cyber bullying is a large issue in modern society. In our video we showed how although it may appear that what you say doesn't affect someone else it still hurts them and that they can still talk to you about what you said.

Five Prayers
There are five forms of prayer: Adoration and blessing, petition, intercession, thanksgiving and praise. Adoration and blessing is a prayer thanking god for his role inside of your life. Petition is where you ask god for blessings in your life and others lives such as asking for someone to feel better. Intercession is praying on behalf of someone else, such as thanking god for your atheist friend. Thanksgiving is what it sounds like, giving thanks for something god did for you similar to intercession but your not the middle man. Praise is also fairly simple to explain and is simply praising god for how right and just he is.

This year we are required to have thirty hours of volunteer work. The chart below shows the hours I did, and who I volunteered for.
I have volunteered for many parts however I have found that I am more inclined to volunteer for a sports game as ref or score keeper. In the past I have also worked as a lines men for volleyball games and as shot clock for basketball games. I have also done manual labor for friends and other people such as helping my best friend construct the inside of their house. I commonly volunteer as tribute and then never recognize it as volunteering, I just see it as doing what needs to be done.
Benefits of volunteering
Volunteering can massive mental benefits. The act of giving up your time and energy for the benefit of others can relieve stress and release endorphin's which make you happy. Other benefits are that if you volunteer for something you can write that down on your resume which will make potential employers really realize what you're capable of. Benefits of the physical type are not very common unless you volunteer for hard labour such as landscaping or farm chores.
Health and Religion - Project #5
When you, the younger audience that may be reading this, are searching for a job you may not know that you have a special list of rights for the workplace. In many workplaces you have three main rights, the right to know, the right to participate and the right to refuse unsafe work. In many instances teenagers working in the workplace may have not known these rights and have suffered the consequences. Luckily for you I have written this handy dandy article that has told you your three fundamental rights in the workplace.
Here are three jobs I found that young, part time working students could apply for.

What role do teens have in managing their own health?
Teens are responsible for their own food but still need to be supported with healthy food in their own home. Teenagers must be responsible but must be raised in a responsible household.

Five things that I found interesting and important.
-When a company says "low in fat" they mean the food has less than three grams of fat
-The ingredients are listed in weight from most to least
-When a food is said to be cholesterol free it is also free in trans and saturated fat
-When looking at calories compare it to how much you actually eat because it is more realistic
-Calories and core nutrients are always shown in the same order

5 Tips in food labeling
- See the amount of food for the nutrient label before calling it good or bad.
- Use the daily value instead of amounts because its easier to understand.
- Core nutrients are easier to see because they are always listed in the same order.
- Nutrition claims do not necessarily make food healthy.
- Try to eat food that you know all the ingredients.
How to choose healthy foods
Read the nutrient label first and then follow the tips above because the nutrient label will sometimes try to trick you into buying theirs based off the food label.
Choose the proper amount
Do not eat hundreds of pounds of food! Eating some of anything is not un-healthy, it is eating a disgusting amount of food that will make you fat or unhealthy.
How to compare foods
Comparing foods, with the proper knowledge, is quite simple. You must understand how to read the labels of food. Such as how the first ingredients in the list are the ingredients with the most in the package. So study up on your food labeling guide and you'll be a pro in no time.
